Your ERP tracks the business. It doesn't sell for it. Amit Gathani shows wholesale and manufacturing teams what's missing, and how to fix it fast.
GROWTH PILLAR: AI & Automation
WHO THIS IS FOR: SMB owners / Ops leaders / Sales managers in wholesale, manufacturing, and distribution
WHAT THEY'LL GAIN: A clear picture of what legacy ERP systems can't do — and a practical look at the sales automation layer that fills the gap.
Most wholesale and manufacturing businesses run on ERP systems that were built to track inventory and process orders. They were not built to sell.
Amit Gathani is the founder of OrderTaker — a platform that sits on top of existing ERP solutions and fills the gaps those systems leave behind. In this Canada Growth Network session, Amit walks through exactly what that looks like in practice.
He covers how OrderTaker connects sales teams to a single portal that pulls orders from Amazon, eBay, Wayfair, and EDI channels like Costco — all alongside orders coming directly from customers. Sales reps get a digital product catalog with AI-driven recommendations, customer pipeline tracking, visit logging, and accounts receivable access — all in one place.
The conversation also touches on why on-premise systems have stayed dominant in this space even in 2026. Data security is a real concern for many operators. But staying on-premise has a cost — mobile access is limited, manual processes pile up, and sales opportunities slip through.

Amit (00:05)
for me pictures tell a thousand words, you know, so I I use a lot of synonyms and acronyms in here and there and I'd rather like just show you what what we kinda do in in a nutshell. Right. so I think that'll that'll really help. In terms of order taker, if you go to our website, we have some really some some terms that we use that make things a little bit more ambiguous than they than you would like, you know.
For example, we define ourselves as an interface layer that sits on top of ERP solutions to offer gaps in what they provide, and to fulfill those gaps. a lot of people will say, Well, what is what are those gaps? What are those things that you're looking for? So we define those as CRM sales automation capabilities, we cover operational capabilities and we cover
sales oriented that really supports the business and helps it grow and helps it and advance across existing solutions in the market that don't do these things, Or don't do them well. For example, when I was growing up, I went to University of Waterloo in nineteen ninety nine and and then graduated in two thousand four.
but we were still working with on premise systems at the time. Cloud-based systems were just coming out. And to this day, like it's 2026 now, and on premise systems still predominant in the industry across many different customers. and because they prefer to keep their data secure and on to themselves, they actually end up like losing out on on premise systems don't do very well on
in terms of mobile capabilities because you have to get through the firewall. So that those are those are things that we provide benefits.
Amit (01:36)
So I'll
Amit (01:37)
walk you through you know how systems like ours can benefit you. So we have a order taker is both a back end and a front end application, it allows both your operational and sales teams to log into a portal.
That's accessible from our website, order taker.us, and it's just app.order taker.us. You click on sign in and it takes you here and it logs you in and into the website. It asks you for your company. You choose the company, and from the company dashboard, you can pick a variety of different capabilities that we have. These are gaps that we fulfill across sales and ordering dashboards, analytics, product catalog, customer CRM.
accounting, purchasing, operations and fulfillment and so much reporting and so much more. if I just go to one of these, say I pick orders, for example, this becomes an order management screen, we actually allow you to access order management across your ERP solution. So these are all coming from Intuit QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise, which is an on premise system.
And essentially you get to access, all your orders are coming in from Wayfair and from directly from customers and from all these different sources, Amazon they're getting collected here. Now you can either edit these orders or you can add orders directly from here. You can also filter the screen to choose what kind of options you want to see and also add filters to narrow down to certain customers, certain vendors, certain users that have created these orders.
So these orders can come both from Intuit QuickBooks, they can come from a mobile phone, a B2B e-commerce. We connect to Amazon, eBay. we're interfacing with a variety of different sources, like EDI, if you're aware of any of the, wholesale distribution or manufacturing terms, electronic data interchange is a place where large big big box retailers can say send orders directly to you, like Costco, for example.
and these orders get conglomerated here. and while that's happening, I'll quickly share what looks
Amit (03:37)
What does
Amit (03:38)
like on the front end. So
What you're looking at is order management on the desktop screen, but we also have order management
Amit (03:44)
in
in the back office. So
Amit (03:46)
a port of both a cover it covers both a point of sales and CRM. So this is a sales automation solution that allows, salespeople or even operational staff to access a point of sales catalog, digital catalog that allows them to browse through various different items, view different kinds of sets of items,
Amit (04:03)
I can set cross.
Amit (04:05)
categories, subcategories, and
Amit (04:07)
It's
more
Amit (04:08)
It displays beautifully both in list view, and green view where you see items
Amit (04:13)
Full screen you can actually see
Amit (04:16)
can work across many different industries, furniture,
Amit (04:18)
Not just for but
Amit (04:19)
lighting, food and beverage,
Amit (04:21)
Which
Amit (04:22)
cigars, any luxury products, jewelry,
we were approached by some very large retailers our solution beneficial.
Amit (04:28)
I found the solution to be extremely beneficial.
Amit (04:32)
and this it because of the way it's positioned, the way it's
Amit (04:35)
Really great job in terms of
Amit (04:36)
term
displaying itself and provides you access to
Amit (04:40)
a lot of different kind of as well. You look up six
Amit (04:41)
This well you can you can items by last three six
Amit (04:46)
months, twelve months. there's a record as well
Amit (04:48)
Recommendations list here as well.
Amit (04:50)
which actually pulls up
Amit (04:51)
All your products our artificial intelligence figures out what you should be selling to the customer that are in the market. And then we as you start adding items, we can we can get them
Amit (05:02)
Submit.
Amit (05:03)
through a cart, we can view order history and generate PDF orders. PDF orders come up
Amit (05:08)
come on
Amit (05:09)
through
Amit (05:09)
office like
Amit (05:10)
Synchronization with the back off and looks like
Amit (05:13)
this with your order.
Amit (05:15)
we can look
at a C R and access accounts receivable tasks, attached to your
Amit (05:21)
Your calendar and your calendar is also available.
Amit (05:23)
available to you on the left hand
side. View customers on a map as a Florida.
Amit (05:28)
As well.
Amit (05:30)
And you can add customers or even view more customer the timeline of this customer.
Amit (05:34)
details across the of the system.
Amit (05:38)
emailing, texting, calling is all available. All your phone contact details are all available. The CRM solution. Task management actually allows you
Amit (05:47)
You
to create tasks and schedule them.
Amit (05:49)
on a calendar. So this is some of the components
Amit (05:50)
Some scheduled component.
Amit (05:53)
that they've added. this is to call a customer at 9 a.m. next Monday. and finally, you can also see a dashboard of your and map out are on different stages.
Amit (06:00)
where your customers are pages
of development for that customer, whether they're one
Amit (06:06)
decision maker brought in presentation qualified to buy an appointment.
Amit (06:08)
Schedule schedule
and so on and so forth.
Amit (06:13)
finally, we can time in and time out customers, right? Check in and check out.
Amit (06:17)
Like to just to schedule
Amit (06:19)
To know how much time they're spending at a customer
site and even
Amit (06:23)
of
dashboards and analytics for this customer which displays
Amit (06:27)
essentially any kind of analytic
Amit (06:29)
that
you wanna see as a salesperson.
Amit (06:32)
and you want to view, what's how you're tracked month.
Amit (06:33)
being sold in month to
month in terms of your sales quantities and
Amit (06:38)
And dollar volume. So it's really nice in that way. we do a lot, and these orders basically get conglomerated into this order management screen. Everything else you see on the left hand side and in the menu that we showed earlier allows you to configure and set up order taker. you know, whether it's you it's something you want to configure and set up with your Wayfair, eBay, Amazon.
B2B e-commerce, e-commerce, we can can basically put the all of that together for you.
